Fashion Face-Off: Netherlands vs. Japan

If you’ve been more than a little disappointed by England’s performance in the World Cup so far and think that perhaps Fabio Capello should’ve let the WAGs go to South Africa so we could at least be distracted by some fabulous fashion, then you’ll love the World Cup fashion face-off that’s going on at Very.co.uk.

If you’ve not already heard about it then here are the basics. Each World Cup country is represented by a unique fashion look with a distinct national theme. So, for example England are channelling the Kate Moss festival look with plenty of retro cool thrown in (incidentally they’re already through to the quarter finals in this World Cup at least!).

Each week two World Cup countries are put head-to-head. Fashion fans then vote for their favourite look and the country with the most votes will go through to the next round. So far England, South Africa and Brazil are through to the quarter finals.

Up this week are the Netherlands vs. Japan in a very pink fashion face-off! The Netherlands are represented by a floral theme, including a blue floral playsuit and a pink floral dress, with vintage style accessories.

Japan on the other hand have ‘harajuku girls’ as their theme and embody the eclectic nature of the harajuku area of Tokyo where young people parade the most extreme fashions, mixing anything and everything. There are bright pinks and soft, pale pinks mixed with ruffles and prim and proper chic to give a really unique look. Accessories are cute and girly with a bow headband, bunny necklace and a Hello Kitty tote bag.

You can see both looks over at very.co.uk and vote for your favourite to get them through to the next round. You can also support England in their next fashion face-off which will be against World Cup hosts South Africa in the quarter finals. Here’s to hoping we’ll be as successful on the pitch against Slovenia as we’ve been in the fashion stakes!
