Spain Go Into World Cup As Strongest Team

Spain go into the World Cup 2014 as the strongest team in the competition. Manager Vicente del Bosque is expected to name his squad in the next couple of days. He has stated ahead of this announcement that he is still unsure about his squad because all of the players are playing extremely well. Del Bosque especially has a lot of options in midfield and this has only grown with the rise of Atletico Madrid as a real force in the Spanish la Liga. The likes of Koke have done extremely well with Atletico this campaign.

Del Bosque also worried a lot about the striker’s in his squad, but the likes of Fernando Torres and David Villa are once again appearing to come into the best of form. Further, the Spaniard also has the ability to choose Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, who has been in fine scoring form throughout the campaign. The goalscoring exploits of the Brazil born striker has helped the club go very close to winning the league and the Champions League this season. Spain will be going into the World Cup looking to defend the title, but del Bosque has accepted that this will not be easy given the strength of other teams like Brazil and Argentina.

"Of course I have doubts, they're nice to have, but we have many certainties and no doubt we will resolve everything in time,” said the former Real Madrid manager about his squad. Spain will be involved in only two friendlies before the start of the World Cup. It will be against Bolivia and El Salvador. The first match of the group stages will be against Netherlands, who will be their toughest opponents in the group stages. This will be followed by matches against Chile and Australia, which will also be tough.
